March GoFundMe Hero: “Basketball Cop” Bobby White Helped 28 Police Departments Use Basketball to Connect with Youth

Officer White Challenges 100 Police Officers to Become Mentors

Redwood City, California | March 22, 2017 — Officer Bobby White, aka “Basketball Cop,” is on a mission to build positive relationships between police and young people. Officer White, from Gainesville, Florida, rose to prominence when he played pickup basketball with local youth after responding to a noise complaint. Inspired by this experience, White launched a GoFundMe to provide basketball hoops to other police departments to help build relationships between officers and their communities.

Now Officer White is challenging 100 police officers around the country to become mentors in their communities. Through the Basketball Cop Foundation, the organization he started in early 2016,  White has built two basketball courts for Gainesville youth and sent portable hoops and balls to over 28 police departments across 13 states.

That’s why we named Officer Bobby White as March’s “GoFundMe Hero.” To learn more about his incredible story and the work that he’s doing, click here:
